The Glasier Svartisen
For more than a hundred years the glacier Svartisen has been visited by tourists. This part of Svartisen is called Engenbreen and Fonndalsbreen. Many tourist ships visit the fjord Holandsfjorden to get a scenic view over Svartisen.
This is the second largest glacier in Norway only 5 meter above sea level. The glacier has grown quit a bit over the past years and only from the fall of 97 to the summer of 98 the glacier added 40 meters further down to the lake Engabreen.
Driving the Rv17 you will be able to spot the glaciers many arms as they reaches down from the mountain to the fjord. To get a good view you should take the boat across the fjord. The boat only takes 10-15 min. During the summer from 25.May to 5.September the boat runs in a regular schedule.

Meløy has a rich cultural history with church history from the 14th century and the noble family Benkestok from the 16th Century amongst them.
